Book of the month - March

Updated: Apr 6

This month we are going to delve into geopolitics in order to better understand our current conflicts and their backgrounds. Learn why we have chosen "Prisoners of Geography", written by Tim Marshall as book of the month.

Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall

After having read "Think Again" as book of the month in February, we focus this month on a different topic.

Our world isn't easy to understand. Even though some politicians might try to convince you otherwise, there is no good and evil, no black and white, but many shades of grey. In order to live a mindful life, we must be aware of this fact to understand our surroundings, be able to empathize with others, and grow personally.

How does this relate to geopolitics? Tim Marshall shows in "Prisoners of Geography" that the interests of nations often depend more on mountain ranges, access to the sea, supply chains, and river beds than on individual opinions. The interesting thing: governments come and go, but the geopolitical situation rarely changes - that's why the Russian Tsar Empire, the Soviet Union, and modern Russia all have similar geostrategic goals.

Why do you think your values would work in a culture you don’t understand?

To understand what is happening in the world, we not only have to understand the geopolitics of our own nation but also those of other countries. We are looking forward to finding answers to questions like "Why did Putin invade Ukraine?" or "Why is there so much conflict in Israel?", "Why is China emerging as a superpower?" and more.
